Rather then level up or gain new moves your characters stay the same throughout the whole 10+ hour affair. The fun here however comes in the games style. There are of course magic weaknesses and even weapon weaknesses to learn. You take turns beating the crap out of each other via attack, magic, skills, etc. When in battle a similar affair plays out but the JRPG elements show more here. That aspect works well for this game and gives you a true feeling of luck or horrible luck. Like a surprise attack may need a dice roll of 10 so anything 10 or higher ensures a successful sneak attack…lower means you’ll “accidentally” make a noise and sound the alarms. Similar to D&D you occasionally will even roll virtual dice shaped like D&D dice to see the success or failure of something occurring. Like an adventure novel you’ll chose where to go which will result in either good luck or bad. You and your party of 2 others are placed on map. To better explain here’s how the game plays out. GAMEPLAY: Now like I said before think of Crimson Shroud as D&D fused with a JRPG. There is no voice over work beyond some grunts and noise from character/ creatures alike which is sad in some ways but understandable with a game like this. I honestly also love the map ambiance it reminds me of a true adventure tale as if you were truly in an abandoned castle like setting. SOUND: The music here is quite strong boasting a true adventure like tone and ambiance as you progress. Overall while not ugly by any means Crimson Shroud has a unique art that may turn off a majority rather than please a large number. Backdrops are also about the same again sporting the look of a really expensive D&D board (btw D&D is dungeons and Dragons in case you’ve been like what the heck is he on about with this D&D). While the art is stellar sporting the look of Vagrant Story strongly, the lack of movement on screen and the lack of anything visually movable is a test of gaming thought process. VISUALS: Do you like characters with amazing art that stand on figurine like stands barely moving besides some odd hops now and then? Well you’re in luck cause that whats in Crimson Shroud. Overall however you’ll enjoy the story if you like this genre’s usual tropes and style but if you’re not a fan of D&D story like affairs…it may be a bit boring. The narrative is driven like an old school chose your adventure story so expect a lot of “You decided to…” or “You gaze upon the chest” type affairs but it works for a nostalgia feeling and something not seen often in todays gaming world. RPG fans like D&D players will love the ability to get background story elements but those who want a quick tale can also go about the game and let it progress like normal. The story however is what you make of it. This however leads to our story when the little band finds more then what they bargained for. Need a lost love found, they do it, need to seek some famed treasure, they will seek it out. You play as a small band of rag tag character called Chasers, who are basically like finders of anything you shell out money for. STORY: Set in a world of magic and medieval world like qualities comes Crimson Shroud. So what does that mean about this title that comes from an acclaimed studio? Well let my Judgment speak for it!! A downloadable 3DS title via the shop, Crimson Shroud is an odd game and whats more it was made with the table top rpg player in mind. Anyways, if you’re a fan of JRPGs you’ve come across Level 5 Studio’s and if you’re a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics or Vagrant Story you may want to look up Crimson Shroud. At the end of a successful battle, the quantity of items they can collect is determined by how quickly they dispatched their enemies.First review on wordpress and its a game no ones probably heard of…smart or not. Rather than a traditional levelling system, a character's attributes are directly tied to their equipment. Dice are also used to determine whether the party can escape an enemy encounter. Attack options are selected from a menu system and their power is determined by rolling dice, which the player starts with two of but can acquire more as the game progresses. The player's party and enemies are represented as counters on a board, which is navigated by moving between rooms. Giauque, Frea and Lippi are on a search for the original gift, the mysterious crimson shroud, when one of their companions is suddenly killed.Ĭrimson Shroud, originally released as part of the Guild01 compilation, is a turn based role-playing game heavily inspired by pen-and-paper games. All magic in the world is believed to be sourced from gifts given by the gods to men.
